About the Jazz Combo
The Jazz Combo is a small group (usually between 5 to 8 musicians) that plays pieces in many styles and from different periods of the jazz repertoire.
There is an emphasis on collaboration. The musicians in the group participate in putting together their own versions of songs in addition to playing from written arrangements. There is guidance in various approaches to improvisation and how to interact with each other in a spontaneous manner.
The group performs at least one concert per semester and has played at various special events including the visit of Queen Elizabeth to William and May in 2007, the Winter Blues and Jazz Fest, and various faculty and alumni receptions.
