About Brass Ensemble
The Brass Ensemble performs as a brass choir and as the 19th century styled W&M Cornet Band.
Membership: Is open to all brass playing Willam & Mary students as well as community members.
Musicians in the William & Mary Brass Ensemble play trumpet, horn, trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, and tuba as well as specialty instruments such as flugelhorn, cornet, eb and piccolo trumpets. In addition to the standard modern instruments, the Brass Ensemble performs as the William & Mary Cornet Band, on historic brass instruments and repertoire that were common from the 1850s to 1900.
Literature ranges from masterworks of the renaissance and baroque to jazz and contemporary classical brass ensemble compositions. The Brass Ensemble plays at least one campus concert per semester with the opportunity for additional performances at venues such as Colonial Williamsburg’s DeWitt Gallery, The Fairfax Historic Ensembles Muster, and special engagements at significant Civil War era historic sights
Membership does not require an audition, but members should have a proficiency at playing a brass instrument. Please contact J. Gabriel Stone, Director for information.
