Biography

Tripp Johnson studied jazz guitar at Virginia Commonwealth University and has been a music educator and performer for more than 30 years. He has extensive experience teaching old-time, bluegrass, jazz, blues, rock and folk music in private lessons, classes and workshops. He has performed as a band leader, sideman and soloist in numerous clubs, concert halls and festivals in the US. 

Since 2003, Tripp has led a weekly old-time music jam session at Cary Street Café in Richmond. It has since become the longest-running old-time jam session in Eastern Virginia. Tripp has won numerous awards at mandolin competitions and his old-time band, the Cary Street Ramblers, have performed at venues and festivals all over Virginia, including the William & Mary Ewell Concert Series.
