Mentored Student Research in Cadiz
Since the program's founding in 2003, students have completed a 3-credit independent research project. Research topics include contemporary Spanish culture,
- including immigration,
- youth cultures,
- gender and politics,
- the arts,
- the cultures of historical memory,
- commemoration and human rights,
- sport and identity,
- religion,
- education,
- public health and medicine,
- social movements,
- the performing arts,
- urban geography, and
- tourism.
After you are selected for the summer program, you will enroll in a spring semester 1-credit research preparation course. In this course, you will draft a research proposal for your summer project.
Once you are in Cádiz, you will develop your research questions. You will interview local experts and community members, document direct observations and interactions, and produce a final paper. When you're finished, you will have a substantive document for your academic portfolio - regardless of your major. Our students often tell us that they accomplished more than they ever dreamed possible during their time in Cádiz.
