Shinji Shimoura

Shinji Shimoura specializes in Japanese language pedagogy, with a particular focus on how learners’ individual differences influence their second language acquisition as well as leveraging computer technology effectively to enhance language learning and curriculum development. Prior to joining William & Mary, Professor Shimoura taught at various institutions, including the University of South Florida, Eckerd College, Purdue University, Florida State University, and Middlebury Japanese Language School. 

Beyond the classroom, Professor Shimoura has made significant contributions to the field of Japanese language education through his research and presentations at national and international conferences, including the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ), the Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium (CALICO), and the International Association for Task-Based Language Teaching.

He completed his MA in Linguistics/TESOL at the University of South Florida and an MS in Geography at Florida State University.
