Shahrzad Ghobadlou, Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of French & Francophone Studies, earned a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Arizona State University and holds an M.A. in French Language and Literature from Boston University. Her doctoral thesis examines the experimental strategies employed by contemporary writers and visual artists such as Anne Garréta, Marjane Satrapi, and Shirin Neshat. Her research explores the themes of exile, migration, and multiculturalism by foregrounding these authors’ framing of liminality, or in-betweenness, which defines the lives of ethnic, gender, and religious minorities in France and the United States. A recent addition to the William & Mary faculty, she teaches courses in French and graphic novels.
