Boren Awards for International Studies
Boren Awards provide funding opportunities for US undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to US interests, including Chinese. They can provide undergraduate students with up to $20,000. In the past many W&M students received this scholarship and studied in China.

Chinese Government Scholarship
Scholarship provided by China Scholarship Council. In the past W&M students have been consistently receiving this scholarship to study in China.

Critical Language Scholarship Program
The CLS Program offers scholarships for studying in intensive summer language programs in thirteen critical foreign languages, including Chinese. In the past many W&M students received this scholarship and studied in China.

Huayu Enrichment Scholarship
Scholarships provided by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education to foreign students of age 18 or older to study Mandarin in Taiwan for 2, 3, 6, 9, or 12 months.

Fulbright Scholarship
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. Graduating students only. Currently Fulbright is only active in Taiwan. Interested students should view the Fullbright Scholarship application process at W&M.

Luce Scholars Program
National fellowship program run by the Henry Luce Foundation that provides language training, stipends, and professional placement in Asia. For graduating seniors and graduate students. Designed for those with previously limited exposure to Asia.

Yenching Academy of Peking University
Fully funded interdisciplinary master's program in Chinese studies at Peking University in Beijing. This is a two-year course of study, with the first year having gauranteed funding.

Schwarzman Scholars
Fully funded master's program at Tsinghua University in Beijing. This is a one-year course of study.

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships for Advanced Asian Language Study
This fellowship funds study of advanced languages in East Asia. You can use it for programs like the International Chinese Language Program at the National Taiwan University in Taipei or the Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies at Tsinghua University in Beijing. This program is meant for those who hope to pursue a career that necessitates knowledge of an Asian language. Requires completion of at least three years of college level study of the language and a bachelor's degree at the time the grant is awarded.
