Study Abroad in India this Summer
The following is a Q&A witih Professor Osiapem about an opportunity in Goa and Bengaluru in 2018.
1. What is the Goa/Bengaluru program? What is it like?
The Goa/Bengaluru program is a summer study abroad program run through the Reves Center. We’ll be arriving on 20 May and returning on 23 June. The program will start out in Bengaluru and we’ll spend a week at our sister school there. Then we’ll head to Goa where we will spend the next four weeks at the International Center in Goa.
2. What courses will be offered and how many credits will I get? Will it count for COLL 300?
You’ll get a total of 7 hrs credit. If accepted into the program, you’ll take a 1-credit course in the spring of 2018 to prepare for our trip. While in India, you’ll take two courses worth three credits each. The course with me will be Language in Society and you’ll take a course with our local partner on colonization, globalization, and tourism. As a study abroad experience, it will automatically satisfy COLL 300.
3. What are the dates of the program?
Arrival: 20 May, 2017; Departure: 23 June, 2017.
4. How much does it cost (include airfare if possible)?
It’s about $6,000 not including airfare. The price includes room and board and sightseeing. Airfare is around $1,000-1,500 depending on your departure city. That sounds like a lot, but remember that summer school at W&M also costs money.
5. What are the deadlines?
There are no deadlines yet.
6. How can I find out more?
We will have the first interest meeting on Wednesday, 9 November at 6:00 in Washington Room 312. If you miss that, please contact me directly.
