The James McCord European Studies Award
Established in 2017 by his wife to honor the legacy of a long-time, highly regarded professor in the Department of History, the James N. McCord European Studies Award supports undergraduate and graduate students in History who study and/or research during the summer in Europe, with a strong preference for England. An historian of Britain, Professor Jim McCord traveled there often to engage with British history and culture. This award, a tribute to Professor McCord’s dedication as a teacher, affords students the opportunity to follow in his footsteps in Britain and other European countries. The award encourages History students to conduct original research with primary source documents in foreign libraries and archives. Awards may also be made available to students in other William & Mary programs.
