Bio
Jenny researches Germans in the early modern Atlantic. She is particularly interested in intellectual exchanges across the Atlantic and how Germans and German-speakers (both at home and abroad) engaged with empire. Previous research has centered around Philadelphia-based printer Johann Christoph Saur (1695-1758), who printed the most successful German-language newspaper prior to the Revolution. She has since expanded her scope to other continents, looking at German involvement in the Caribbean, South America, and Atlantic Africa.Originally from Austin, Texas, Jenny holds a BA in German from Sewanee: University of the South and has spent over half a decade living in Germany. She has also studied at Boğaziçi University, Universität Leipzig, and the Technische Universität Dresden. Prior to William & Mary, she taught English and history to high-school students in Germany under the Fulbright program. She has also worked at the archives of the Fliedner-Kulturstiftung in Kaiserswerth.
