Excellent faculty

Students receive much attention in small classes from outstanding faculty who are accessible to students, take teaching seriously, and who are leading experts in their fields. Our faculty have broad interests across domestic and international policy areas. In addition to courses taught by our core faculty affiliates, we routinely build bridges to policy practitioners and other William & Mary faculty who offer specialized courses that serve our students’ specific interests.

Well-rounded curriculum

The MPP curriculum is sequenced so students build foundational knowledge and skills that translate across multiple policy areas, along with elective opportunities so they can pursue their own specific interests. Students graduate with knowledge in economics, law, and politics; substantial training in quantitative policy analysis; and opportunities to learn how to communicate complex policy issues to multiple audiences.

Opportunities for applied learning

Course work and other learning experiences push students to consider policy in real-world settings. These opportunities include engaging policy practitioners in Washington, D.C., the state capital of Richmond, and in local communities proximate to campus. The Washington Program for first-year students, our regular Policy Dialogues, and our Policy Research Seminar for second-year students are but three examples.

Outstanding career placement

Graduates of our program enter careers in governments at all levels, the private sector, and the non-profit sector. The loyalty and breadth of our alumni base provides an outstanding resource for current students as they pursue summer internships after their first year and as they seek employment after graduation.

Competitive price and financial support

Students in our MPP program learn at the highest levels and find excellent jobs after graduation without the high costs that students incur at other well-known programs on the East coast and across the nation. A variety of competitive and non-competitive financial support also is available.
