2015 Faculty Governance Award
Citation for W. Larry Ventis
As chair of the Psychology Department from 1999 to 2005, Professor Ventis championed the cultural shift toward becoming more scientifically- and research-based. He was a key member of the committee charged with the design, renovation, and construction of the ISC-2; has been a member or chair of the department's Personnel Committee and Curriculum Committee; and played a significant role in developing and operating the consortial doctoral program in clinical psychology, in which the department participated for 35 years. His service extends throughout Arts & Sciences, often for multiple years and as chair of, for example, the Educational Policy Committee, Committee on Graduate Studies, and Nominations and Elections Committee. At the College level he has served on the Faculty Assembly, Academic Status Committee, and Special Interest Housing Committee. For twenty-nine consecutive years he has served as a freshman advisor. His many contributions to the profession include his current service as president of the International Society for Humor Studies.
For his faithful, steadfast commitment to meeting the needs of students, fellow faculty members, the College community, and his profession, it is fitting that Professor Ventis be recognized with the Arts & Sciences 2015 Faculty Governance Award.
