2014 Faculty Governance Award
Citation for Sibel Zandi-Sayek
Since joining the faculty in 2002, Professor Zandi-Sayek (Art and Art History) has contributed consistently and extensively to the governance of Arts & Sciences. She has helped to shape and direct various area studies programs, serving on the advisory committees of Middle Eastern Studies and Asian Studies (co-director, 2010-11) and then as founding co-director when these concentrations merged in 2011 to form Asian and Middle Eastern Studies; and also serving on the advisory committee of European Studies and on the Executive Committee of American Studies. Additional service to Arts & Sciences includes her membership on the International Studies Advisory Committee (2011-present), Nominations and Elections Committee (2010-13), and the Dean's Advisory Council (2010-12).
Her service at the departmental level has been similarly active and valued. She has served on six search committees and chaired one; and for six years was the department's Curriculum Committee chair/liaison to the Educational Policy Committee. Since 2011 she been a member of the department's Personnel Committee (current chair), during which time the committee has conducted several tenure and pre-tenure reviews. For her many contributions, it is fitting that Professor Zandi-Sayek be recognized with the Arts & Sciences 2014 Faculty Governance Award.
