We Need Your Help

A male bluebird guards his fledglings. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has been tremendously generous to our program, giving us more than $2 million over the last seven years. As part of the new ($1.5 million) grant they have challenged us to raise an equal amount through private sources, specifically to endow our innovative environmental postdoctoral program. This program gives us a new junior faculty member every year, bringing with them cutting-edge research opportunities for students, new courses, and also helps tie the Environmental Science and Policy program more intimately with other aspects of William and Mary. For example, our first postdoc, Yuehan Lu, is working with ENSP and VIMS faculty and teaching students on both campuses about environmental quality assessment. Our next postdoc, Chris Marcoux, is integrating the emerging Institute for the Theory and Practice of International Relations within our far-reaching environmental umbrella, and will offer new international environmental policy courses.   Currently, we are  searching for an environmental humanties post-doc to participate in a "test-tube to YouTube" initiative to improve the accessibility of science research to the broader public.  The sky is the limit for our forthcoming postdocs.

In short, this is a great program for our students, for the postdocs themselves, and for our faculty; but we need your support.  Specifically, we need to raise money against the Mellon match to endow the postdoc program, and also open up avenues for even more funding from this wonderfully generous sponsor.

Any commitment you can make to us, no matter how large or small, is an important step in the right direction. So please contact me directly ([[rmcham]]) and/or use the online giving tool to help us continue our extraordinary growth. A small amount of annual giving can go a long way. You can give to ENSP directly at: http://www.wm.edu/as/environment/support/.

Thank you for your support!
