Grant Award for Professor Gang Zhou
Gang Zhou has been awarded a Faculty Interdisciplinary Initiatives Grant funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for the Humanities. This summer grant is in collaboration with Professor Paul Kieffaber in the Department of Psychology at the College of William & Mary.
The interdisciplinary research they proposed is to explore initial results towards early depression identification and quantification in an objective way compared to traditional self-report based subjective measurement. The Computer Science research aim is to understand and quantify the impact of wireless communication loss on the Psychological application fidelity, Alpha asymmetry and cortical entropy, and also develop a media access control protocol to deal with the impact. The Psychological research aim is to develop routines for the quantification of two EEG biomarkers, Alpha asymmetry and cortical entropy, using an Emotiv EPOC wireless neuroheadset which includes 14 scalp sensors and two integrated gyroscopes.
