Dr. Ann Baldwin Bates Scholarship
The Dr. Ann Baldwin Bates Scholarship, named in memory of Dr. Bates (Biology '90), is a need-based scholarship for upper-class Biology majors (current sophomore or junior) who have demonstrated selfless and compassionate commitment to others in the context of volunteer health care service. A call for applications is typically emailed to Biology majors in March/April, with applications due in April or May. Application review is under the direction of the Biology Department’s Undergraduate Studies Committee. Funds are disbursed to the recipient's W&M student account during the subsequent academic year.
Eligibility requirements:
- Substantial high school and/or college volunteer service activity in health care settings.
- Declared W&M Biology major posted on DegreeWorks at time of scholarship application.
- Current sophomore or junior with demonstrated financial need for the next academic year. When the scholarship application is submitted, applicants must have a FAFSA on file at W&M that demonstrates financial need for the next academic year.
