Art and Art History
Classrooms, art studios, and exhibition spaces for the Department of Art and Art History are accommodated in three locations:
- The Main Office and the Office of the Department Chair are located in Rooms 208 and 208b of Andrews Hall. Andrews is behind PBK Hall on Jamestown Road. Faculty offices, the Visual Resource Center with computers and scanning stations, and classrooms and art studios are also on the second floor. The Andrews Gallery, located in the ground floor hallway that connects Andrews Hall with PBK Hall, has changing exhibitions of contemporary art. Sculpture studios: wood, metal, and foundry, and architectural design are situated in the west wing.
- The Ceramics Studio, aka the Old Power Plant, is behind Undergraduate Admissions on Jamestown Road. We have facilities for hand-building and wheel-throwing clay arts.
- Overlooking the lake, the Matoaka Art Studios has a windowed-teaching studio at each end. Students take courses in two-dimensional arts: printmaking and drawing. The building also boasts 5 faculty studios.
Andrews Hall is at the heart of the new campus, across the courtyard from Swem Library with its Media Center with state of the art editing suites, a recording studio and a full complement of editing software. Students find it easy to get from one class to another. It's a three or four minute walk to science and social science classrooms.
Directions from College Corner
From College Corner (the V intersection of Jamestown and Richmond Roads), proceed west on Jamestown Road to Phi Beta Kappa Circle on the right. Access to Andrews Hall is through Phi Beta Kappa Hall.
