Action Areas
Since her arrival at W&M Provost Agouris has been focusing on several strategic areas within the academic mission of the university to explore and develop with the deans, vice provosts, faculty, and other partners. The planning undertaken in these areas and resulting actions are intended to focus, guide and advance William & Mary’s strategic position into the future. The current initiatives include the following:
New School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics
Throughout its history, William & Mary has evolved to answer the needs of our nation — leading the evolution of the liberal arts and sciences at key moments of transformation. The next chapter of innovation is underway, as the university responds to rapid changes in research and learning by taking an important step to establish a school joining departments and programs of Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Science and Physics.

Research Vision & Profile
Exploring and expanding W&M’s vision and future trajectory for research as a Carnegie R2 doctoral institution with high research activity continues to be a priority for William & Mary. Several steps have been taken to strengthen the infrastructure for research including the implementation of the Cayuse platform in the Office of Sponsored Programs; the expansion of Faculty Success to better track the work of faculty in research and scholarship; the addition of the associate provost for research development and innovation to help identify large grant opportunities and to assist faculty in successfully securing such funds.
Data & Analytics Infrastructure
Identifying and creating the data and analytics infrastructure in academic administration needed for evidence-based planning and decision-making is a top initiative. As Provost, Peggy Agouris shaped guiding principles for data regarding the academic enterprise with a focus on transparency and access, trust in accuracy, viewed at the aggregate level across programs allowing for systematization and differentiation where appropriate, internal and external facing, and creating systems for sustainability.

Academic Stress & Wellness
Promoting wellness and well-being within the academic environment among faculty, students and staff, while examining and addressing the role that academic stress plays in the William & Mary culture has been a major focus for the provost. The focus is on the academic side of the house to determine how to mitigate stress and enhance wellbeing for our students as well as faculty and staff.
