About Michele

Ms. Brumfield holds a B.A. in Historic Preservation from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg. She is currently a senior researcher at the Center for Archaeological Research, where she manages the laboratory, contributes to historical research, and assists with graphics and map production. Specialized skills also include developing presentation of research highlights using ArcGIS StoryMap, creation of 3D imagery using handheld LiDAR data, and artifact photography.

Between 1993 and 2018 she served as archaeologist and architectural historian for several cultural resource management firms, and from 2006 to 2012 she was co-owner and project manager for Coates & Hodges, LLC, a small woman-owned GIS firm. Ms. Brumfield has conducted fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and site mapping for a wide variety of sites in Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New York, West Virginia, Illinois, Mississippi, and Alabama. She has assisted on many archaeological and architectural surveys across Virginia, as well as archaeological assessments, evaluations, and data recoveries. Ms. Brumfield has provided GIS services for several sites and installations in Virginia.
