Faculty Assembly
THE FACULTY ASSEMBLY
THE COLLEGE OF WILLIAM AND MARY IN VIRGINIA:
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF TUESDAY APRIL 20, 1999
Following the respective caucuses of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and of the combined Schools of Business, Education, Law, and Marine Science, Assembly Vice President David Lutzer called the meeting to order at 3:45 p.m.
Arts & Sciences and the combined Schools distributed their respective slates of nominees. Vice President Lutzer reminded members of the order of business first, to elect the Assembly Officers (in order, President, Vice President, and Secretary); then, to elect committee members to the Executive Committee, the Academic Advisory Committee, and the Committee on Committees. He explained to new members that the Presidency, by tradition, alternated between Arts & Sciences and the combined Schools, and that one year's Vice President normally becomes the next year's President. He explained as well that the Vice President and Secretary came from the combined Schools in years when the President was from Arts & Sciences, and vice versa; and he explained that the Chair of Arts & Sciences' Faculty Affairs Committee sits ex officio on the Executive Committee.
The elections commenced. Before each, Vice President Lutzer asked for nominations from the floornone were made and nominations were closed appropriately (by motion, second, and unanimous consent).
All elections were unanimous.
David Lutzer, A&S Area III, was elected President.
Bill O'Connell, Business, was elected Vice-President.
Roger Baldwin, Education, was elected Secretary.
Will Hausman, A&S Area II; Colleen Kennedy, A&S Area I; Alan Meese, Law; and Steve Kaattari, Marine Science, were elected to Executive Committee.

Following the elections, Lutzer announced that Professor Ed Ayers, President of the University of Virginia's Faculty Senate, would attend our Assembly's May 11th meeting to discuss UVA's political outreach, in the hopes of inspiring similar activities here.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15.

Colleen Kennedy
