W&M Esports finds success at GAMEMason

The William & Mary Varsity Esports Program experienced much competitive success at the 2024 GAMEMason tournament, taking place from Thursday, February 22nd to Saturday, February 24th at George Mason University. The Program's VALORANT, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Overwatch 2 rosters competed against over 15 other colleges and universities.

In particular, the Overwatch 2 team made their mark with an appearance in grand finals, eventually falling to RIT Esports to finish in second place. Varsity player Paris "Un2q" Bredehoft ('24) had the following to say:

"Our team relies on its experience. We have three senior players who all play on different roles, which provides a strong foundation for our talented young players to thrive. We fought hard after getting sent to losers earlier than expected to GMU, playing more Overwatch than any other team at the event due to going to map five in three back-to-back series. While we always strive for the gold, second place is an overall success for the team. Our only freshman starter, Clifton "XZD" Ward, got valuable LAN and stage experience. Being the youngest on the team and keeping your cool under all that pressure in the losers bracket and grand finals stage is incredibly impressive! Our team is exceptional, we hope to bring home the gold in EGF nationals in Atlanta at the end of April."
