New School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics
William & Mary is establishing a new school in computer science, data science, applied science and physics, marking the first new school established at the university in more than half a century and propelling the university into the future.
The new school reorganizes the four highly successful units to foster unparalleled growth in teaching and research and to meet emerging needs in the Commonwealth and beyond.
Timeline
In discussion since early 2022, the new school at William & Mary is in the final stretch.
Fall 2023
W&M Board of Visitors moves to establish the new school.
Spring 2024
W&M submits school proposal to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
Fall 2024
Douglas Schmidt '84, M.A. '86 is named dean of the School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics.
Fall 2025
The School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics officially opens.
