Whole of Government
Advancing interagency cooperation in national security
Amidst intensifying globalization, sound security policies require the collaboration of multiple branches of government agencies and the military services, among others.
William & Mary’s Whole of Government Center of Excellence (WGC) is a national security hub for the university. We train and educate a new generation of future leaders who have hands-on, practical experience working across the different organizational cultures. Through our strategic leader training certificates and programs, collaborations and convenings, and W&M degree programs, the WGC cultivates acculturation. Based on a few hundred years of history, we find that interagency cultures should be taught, understood, and harmonized by the men and women tasked with working among and between agencies and units. With that knowledge base, our networks and students are equipped to navigate the twists, tunnels, and shortcuts during a national security emergency, strategy development and implementation, or foreign deployment whether they are a GS-5 or a Lieutenant Colonel.
