About Laura

Humans are hard-wired for stories, and I have loved reading, writing, and watching stories unfold for as long as I can remember. Whether ordering falafel with a friend in New Zealand or being bullied by an exceptionally impatient self-checkout at a Williamsburg grocery store, I've found that almost anything has the potential to entertain, inform or develop rapport through storytelling.

When I first began taking college courses, I intended to be an English major and focus on writing. Science courses changed that, though. Intrigued by the subject matter, I wanted to develop a deeper understanding of what science is and how it works.

That way, I could write about it.

And so, here I am, a W&M alumna ('22) who majored in biology and now writes about science. There are so many wonderful stories to be told about research here at W&M!

Additionally, I have had two previous careers.

In Philadelphia, I was a pastry chef in a farm-to-table restaurant and later established and managed a
vegan bakery within a locally-owned natural foods store. I also created and prepared vegan dishes as a chef at my local food co-op.

Here in Williamsburg, I am a licensed massage therapist, and I've practiced in a chiropractic office, spas and a yoga studio. I still occasionally cover shifts at the Williamsburg Salt Spa.

Among other things, I also love habitat gardening with native plants, wildlife watching, walking, travel,
music (including playing amateur guitar), spending time with family, and hanging out with the husband and our motley collection of felines.
