About Wilmarie
Dr. Rodríguez provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Office of Academic Wellbeing, Care Support Services, and Student Accessibility Services. She is integral in advancing initiatives that support the Student Success Thematic Area, the division, and the broader university.
Having begun her work as an academic advisor at William & Mary in 2014, Dr. Rodríguez has enjoyed serving as assistant dean of students, associate dean of students & director of academic enrichment programs, and senior associate dean of students & executive director of student success at the institution. She also served as associate dean of student affairs at Bowdoin College.
With over a decade of experience in several functional areas in higher education, Dr. Rodríguez brings strong leadership to her role. She has vast experience in the areas of academic support and intervention, relationship building and collaboration, student success and retention initiatives, student services integration, and leadership and supervision. Dr. Rodríguez's career has focused on creating environments that support students' development and growth. Her goal is for our students to become well-rounded individuals as they prepare for life after William & Mary and establish their place in the world. Dr. Rodríguez also strives to create environments in which the professionals whom she has been entrusted to lead can thrive. Recognizing that meaningful engagement and mentorship are critical to professional success, she takes the lessons she has learned from her own mentors and leaders to provide opportunities for reflection, growth, and success for her colleagues.
Dr. Rodríguez has been recognized on an institutional and national scale for her contributions to student affairs, most notably as a recipient of the Chambers-Reid Award for Professional Excellence at William & Mary, the Mena-Valdéz Outstanding Senior Student Affairs Officer Award for her contributions to shaping the future of higher education, and the John Jones Award for outstanding performance as a Senior Student Affairs Officer.
Dr. Rodríguez holds a doctorate in educational policy, planning, and leadership specializing in higher education administration from William & Mary. Her research focuses on the retention of student affairs professionals and the implementation of program changes to support retention efforts. In addition, Dr. Rodríguez holds an Ed.S. and an M.Ed. in Adult Education. She is also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
When she is not at work, Dr. Rodríguez enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and watching sports.
