The First Gen Fellows Program is designed to recognize and support first-generation students who have shown commitment and engagement with the First Generation Student Engagement office. This program offers a unique opportunity to build leadership skills, foster community, and serve as a peer mentor to new first-generation students.
Eligibility and Application
First-Generation undergraduate students may apply at the completion of a full academic year at William & Mary (30 credits). We are looking for students who:
- Have been actively engaged with the First Generation Student Engagement office throughout the year.
- Are knowledgeable about campus resources and offices.
- Are willing to serve as peer mentors to the incoming cohort of first-generation students.
- Take pride in their first-generation identity and are committed to building a strong sense of belonging.
No prior leadership experience is required. We seek students who are passionate about supporting their peers and are willing to commit to being a Fellow for a full academic year.
Expectations of Fellows
- Maintain good academic standing.
- Plan a program or event with your Fellows cohort.
- Regularly promote, attend, and volunteer at FGSE events.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for first-generation students.
