Institutional Research

The Institutional Research (IR) team has had a busy year with regulatory programs and informing campus decision-making and planning in areas such as admissions, financial aid, curriculum assessment, enrollment management, staffing, student life, finance, facilities, athletics and alumni relations.

  • Coordinated with campus data stewards (e.g., Registrar, UG Admission, IAE, Financial Aid) on student data collection/reporting standards to ensure the university compliance, e.g., SCHEV, IPEDS, NC-SARA.
  • Successfully completed SCHEV and IPEDS whole year cycle of heavy data collections.
  • Led and conducted many high profile data analytic reports, e.g., A&S Dean’s 10-year instructional workload project, A&S annual multiple diversity reports, university diversity dashboard, etc.
Business Intelligence

The Business Intelligence (BI) team has been continuously delivering new features like Qlik App Tracker as well as support of the Qlik Sense environment with two Qlik system upgrades.

  • Qlik NPrinting became a production application, providing a critical student financial statement required by the Bursar.
  • The first Qlik application using data sourced from the DegreeWorks.
  • The BI team provided the IT resources for the highly successful Qlik Finance Training team. This team has composed and conducted multiple end-user training sessions to the university financial users to improve data fluency.
The IR and BI teams complement one another and they work collaboratively to enable data access and governance to W&M organizations. IR and BU team members worked as data leaders on POC’s in working with campus data stewards to reach consensus on data processing, database structure, and data definitions, including serving on many data working committees.
