Environmental education programs aim to teach skills and increase environmental awareness to motivate individuals to improve or maintain environmental quality. The time delays in behavioral change and spillover effects make the theory of change in this type of program challenging to evaluate.
The Center for Information and Environmental Communication of North America (CICEANA) is a non-governmental organization that has developed school-based environmental education programs, in grades K-12, for 25 years in Mexico. CICEANA is partnering with the IIC to co-design an evaluation strategy for a new environmental education program that will be implemented at a middle school in the locality of Valle de Bravo in central Mexico. The program aims at nurturing capabilities among schoolchildren, their families, and communities to help protect water quality in the town’s reservoir.
