Dr. Robert RoseProject Description
Systematic conservation planning (SCP) is a process used to identify efficient solutions to reach conservation targets for a wide variety of species and ecosystems. Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) are sites of global importance for the persistence of biodiversity . With support from the KBA Secretariat, a team of students is exploring the benefits and constraints of integrating SCP in KBAs to advance effective conservation solutions.
Compiling existing SCP case studies, the team is exploring how SCP is generally applied, the potentiality of the process (e.g. how they perform at different scales, from local to global), the effects of target setting approaches, and the robustness of SCP solutions to curbing biodiversity loss. This research aims to improve how SCP can advance effective conservation solutions on KBAs and beyond.
