Land trusts have an essential role in helping the US meet 30x30 goals because they work with private landowners to create conservation easements—voluntary agreements to conserve land in exchange for tax benefits. Effective conservation on private lands, however, requires that land trusts and landowners have the information and the tools needed to plan, implement and evaluate conservation initiatives to ensure that they are meeting conservation objectives.
The IIC is leading development of LandRise, an initiative designed to provide a user-focused geospatial analysis platform to support land trusts and private landowners with the skills, tools and data needed to make decisions about conservation priorities.
