Nomadic herders provide unique perspective on linkages between climate change, land degradation, and animal health and how all those factors work together to compromise their socioeconomic status and health. Including herders viewpoint in devising One Health approaches to solving climate change effects on animal health is important for sustainable solutions.
Alli worked alongside Mongolian experts and W&M faculty to explore the perspectives, knowledge, and views of nomadic herders in Mongolia regarding the connections between animal, human and environmental health, using Foot & Mouth Disease as a case study documenting the importance of including nomadic herder views and knowledge in understanding these connections when developing a holistic conservation, public health, and disease prevention and mitigation plan.
