Srija Upadhyay '27 is a Biology and French/Francophone Studies student from Chantilly, Virginia. Her deep appreciation for the natural world began in childhood, with countless forest adventures, and continues to thrive through her love for nature poetry, birds, and biology research. Srija intends to pursue a career in ornithology and hopes to connect with people from all walks of life through her work.Through the IIC’s Conservation Research Program, Srija aims to broaden her perspective and skillset with a project outside her intended career path. The Carnivore-Herder Conflict Mitigation Project is particularly exciting for her, as a Nepali-American, because it offers the chance to contribute to communities she feels culturally connected to.
On campus, Srija serves as a TA for the Biology Department and conducts ornithology research with William & Mary faculty. When she’s not immersed in birdwatching, you can find her writing poetry, stargazing, or pilfering her friends' caffeine-free tea.
