Biography
Sara Helmick is from Austinville, Virginia, and her passion for environmental conservation began during her time growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains. As a student at W&M, she has worked as a research assistant to a graduate student conducting research on House Sparrows and lead exposure. Currently, she serves as a President of Bird Club and is involved with the Virginia Master Naturalist chapter on campus. When she isn't working on schoolwork, she loves hanging out with her friends, going birding, and spending time in the great outdoors. At the IIC, Sara works on supporting the development of an online Remote Sensing course with Professor Robert Rose, and loves figuring out unique solutions in GIS to try and solve real-world problems. She hopes to pursue a career working with the environment and wildlife conservation after college, with a dream of getting to work with birds one day as part of her job.
