Bio

Lieutenant Colonel J.P. Clark currently serves as chief of the Joint Concepts Branch at the U.S. Army Capabilities and Integration Center, Fort Eustis, Virginia. Previous assignments include positions advising senior civilian and military leaders in the British Ministry of Defence and the Pentagon, serving on a division staff in Iraq, teaching history at West Point, and commanding companies within a tank battalion in the Republic of Korea. His book, Preparing for War: The Emergence of the Modern U.S. Army, 1815-1917, examines the influences that shape military professionalism. His other works have appeared in Parameters, Military Review, The British Army Review, The Bridge, Strategosand Armor. J.P. holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in history from Duke University and a B.S. in Russian-German from the U.S. Military Academy.
