For Faculty and Researchers
Diversity drives innovation.
The Institute offers a variety of ways for faculty to engage beyond our regular events or establishing a full-blown Institute research lab. We often collaborate formally and informally with our colleagues across campus.

Get involved with GRI
You don’t need to run an Institute project to be part of the Institute. Researchers across campus can tap into seed funding to kick-start student involvement in new research projects, apply for funds to bring a speaker to campus, reserve space in our office on the ground floor of Swem, and more. Our community includes faculty and practitioners in international security, international and comparative political economy, health sciences, business, and political psychology. If you’re interested in getting involved, read on for opportunities!
Current GRI Researchers
We track and celebrate the successes of our researchers and labs! Share your updates so we can feature your work in our external comms and track our institutional strategic goals. You can request a read-out of your submissions at any time by e-mailing [[cmvinson,Candice Vinson]].
Share your updates and accomplishments across the following seven categories (in no particular order): 1) Publications; 2) Media hits; 3) Presentations/conference participation; 4) Policy briefings; 5) Grants applied for/won; 6) External partnerships; 7) Anecdotes of impact of your work on the world / on students.
Engage students in research
- Summer Fellows: William & Mary faculty are eligible to apply for Global Research Institute Summer Fellows to support their in-country research. Past faculty-fellows partnerships have included implementation of a randomized controlled trial in Colombia, evaluation of a program in Liberia, and creation of a novel dataset of Indonesian election outcomes.
- Student Research Innovation Funding: Did a student wow you with their final paper or research idea? If their work aligns with your research agenda, we'd love to see them apply for student innovation funding, with your as their faculty mentor. Full details for the student innovation program are available here.
- Student Veteran Research Assistants: Together with the Office of Student Veteran Engagement and a private donor, GRI is offering up to three paid research assistantships annually (10 hours/week during the academic year and 30 hours/week in summer).
-
Host a Student Engagement Event: If a faculty member is hosting a student-focused event, where students are the primary beneficiaries and target audience of the event, they can request up to $500 in catering funding. Faculty can apply for this funding for one event per semester. Faculty are repsonsible for managing the logistics of the event, creating promotional materials, and doing invitation outreach. (We will of course advertise in the GRI Digest if requested). Questions? Email Senior Program Manager for Student Initiatives [[klhouck,Kelly Houck]].
