Position
Mark manages project-specific grant/contract budgets including status reports, financial statements, and reconciling expenses. He provides direction and leadership to ensure transactions, including travel and business meal reimbursements and p-card purchases, comply with University policies and procedures and are processed in a timely and accurate manner. Mark also oversees a wide range of procurement and fiscal activities including purchase orders and direct payments, reviewing and submitting vendor and subcontract payments allocated to external grants, establishing Independent Contractor Agreements, labor redistributions, journal vouchers, honoraria payments, travel and expense reimbursements, as well as management and reconciliation of the Small Purchase Charge Card.Biography
Spring of 2024 will begin Mark Patterson's third year at The College of William and Mary as part of the Fiscal and Administrative team at the Global Research Institute. Patterson’s eclectic breath of university experience includes 13 years working business and finance in college athletic departments including the University of North Texas, Radford University, University of Memphis, and finally as Assistant Athletic Director of Business Operations at UNC-Asheville. During his tenure in Athletics, Patterson was also the public address announcer and play-by-play broadcaster for various sports and has served as the play-by-play broadcaster for the NCAA Rifle National championship as well as the staff senate Vice President for the University of Memphis.
Prior to entering higher education Mark worked as the General Manager of an indoor baseball and softball training facility in Laurel, Maryland and spent time working as game-day staff for the Baltimore Orioles AAA team, the Norfolk Tides, and the Tampa Bay Lightning's AHL team, the Norfolk Admirals.
A native of Nutley, New Jersey, Patterson now resides in Williamsburg, Virginia, with his wife Justine Rushing, their Boston Terrier, "Willbur," and their two cats, "Bird," and "Charlie."
