Types of Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment at W&M
No matter what you are looking for, there is a fraternal organization at William & Mary for YOU!
The Formal Recruitment Process:
Formal recruitment (sponsored by Panhellenic) is the time each fall that potential members and sorority women become acquainted through a series of structured recruitment events. During recruitment functions, potential members talk one-on-one with sorority members. Presentations also provide information about each sorority's activities and values. At the end of the formal recruitment process, bids are extended for membership in one of the 10 NPC (National Panhellenic Conference) chapters on campus. By its very nature, the formal recruitment process is a structured time that provides you an in depth look at sorority life over the course of two consecutive weekends in the Fall semester. Women interested in participating in this process can register starting July 2022 and there is no fee to participate in the first weekend. We want you to come out and see if our community could be the right fit for you while you are at the college.
Informal Recruitment:
Informal recruitment, also known as continuous open bidding, begins immediately after the conclusion of formal recruitment and lasts throughout the academic year. Informal recruitment is a great opportunity for women who did not join a sorority through formal recruitment to become a member of the sorority community. Not all sorority chapters at W&M are able to participate in informal recruitment each year, so please take this into consideration as you make a decision about the best way for you to consider membership in a sorority. Informal recruitment is chapter directed and not facilitated by the Panhellenic Council.
