Plumeri Awards: Passion, Vision, Leadership
Joseph J. Plumeri '66, D.P.S. '11 established this eponymous award in 2009 to advance exceptional faculty members' work and encourage them to engage students in their scholarly endeavors. As of 2024, 247 recipients have benefited from his generosity, enhancing their teaching, research and mentorship. Recipients of this prestigious award undergo a highly competitive formal selection process and are chosen based on their contributions and accomplishments in discovery, scholarship and teaching. In 2019, the award was re-imagined to include recognition of an outstanding coach or staff member in W&M Athletics.
Plumeri Award for Faculty Excellence
The Plumeri Award for Faculty Excellence recognizes and rewards core virtues that distinguish outstanding faculty members and define excellence at William & Mary. Full-time faculty in all schools who have been at William & Mary for at least five years will be eligible for the award, with no restrictions on the number of recipients selected from each school or area. Nine awardees will be selected annually, each receiving a $20,000 prize expended over three years.

Plumeri Award for Athletics Leadership Excellence
The Plumeri Award for Athletics Leadership Excellence recognizes and rewards outstanding coaches and staff whose core virtues and accomplishments help to define excellence in intercollegiate athletics at William & Mary. Award nominees will be evaluated on their contributions and accomplishments of student-athletes and/or departmental success in various areas. One awardee will be selected every year and receive a $20,000 prize expended over three years.
