Adrianne Sugden '25
Ducks Unlimited
Adrianne Sugden is a freshman at William & Mary from Hampton, Virginia. She is a prospective Government major with plans of attending law school and aspirations of later becoming a judge. On campus, Adrianne is a violinist in the William & Mary Symphony Orchestra and a member of one of the university’s club volleyball teams. In her spare time, Adrianne enjoys dancing, crocheting, listening to music, and playing board games. She is excited at the opportunity to live and learn in DC this summer, and is ready to dive into the world of professional leadership. Adrianne looks forward to speaking with current DC leaders, and learning about how they support their communities. She hopes to develop her leadership skills in order to make a difference in her community by becoming a quality leader who is both helpful and effective.

Eva is a sophomore from Northern Virginia studying Accounting with a minor in Sociology. She is the Treasurer of WMFIRE (William and Mary Fighting for Immigrant Rights and Equity) and the VP of Marketing for the Gibbs Accounting Society. She is also involved in Students Helping Honduras, Mason Investment Club, Smart Women Securities, and Latin American Student Union. She hopes to become a Certified Public Accountant. For fun, she enjoys binge-watching, hanging out with friends, and eating ice cream! She is thrilled to be a part of the DC Summer Institute and can't wait to be in DC learning about Leadership and Community Engagement.
Georgia Carpenter '24

Georgia Carpenter is a sophomore at William & Mary from San Francisco, California. She is a Government major who wishes to combine her past experiences and diverse interests to shape and create policy that makes a lasting impact on people’s lives no matter where they live, their socio-economic background, or who they identify as. Before coming to William & Mary, Georgia enjoyed interning at her state senator’s office and serving as the Youth Representative for a local nonprofit organization. On campus, she volunteered as an Orientation Aid, and currently works as a fitness instructor at the Student Recreation Center. Additionally, she is an active member of Kappa Delta Sorority and is part of the honor societies of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma. Georgia is excited to participate in the American Politics Institute and is especially looking forward to studying political polarization and applying what she learns to create more bipartisan policy in the future.
Ella Colbert '22

Ella Colbert is a rising senior at the College pursuing double majors in Government and Marketing. Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, she is eager to get hands-on experience working in D.C. and is hoping that the Leadership & Community Engagement Institute will give her a stronger understanding of how to blend her interests in domestic government and business management. Ella spent the 2020 election cycle as a research and communications intern with her Congressman’s successful re-campaign and is on the research team of WM’s student-led STATES Elections lab. She is also a peer reviewer on the James Blair Historical Review and an early-reading tutor and mentor for Williamsburg elementary students. In her free time, Ella enjoys painting, running, New York Times Crosswords, and exploring all that Virginia has to offer. She hopes to learn as much as she can, personally and professionally, from her time in D.C. and is excited to make a tangible impact on the organizations she will work with.
Lily Faucett '24

Lily Faucett is a sophomore at the College of William and Mary, who grew up in Weston, MA. She is double majoring in English and Classical Studies with a concentration in Latin, though she fills the rest of her schedule with Government courses. She works as a tour guide for the William & Mary Office of Undergraduate Admission, is a member of the W&M chapter of Eta Sigma Phi National Classics Honor Society, and is the Vice President of Inclusion for her social sorority, Kappa Delta. Since June, she as worked for R.E.A.L. Discussion, an education start-up company focused on improving classroom discussion. In her free time, Lily enjoys doing New York Times crossword puzzles, listening to Billy Joel, and re-watching episodes of The West Wing. She is excited about the opportunity to combine her majors, as well as her interests and experience, with government affairs and the legal, educational, and non-profit aspects of public policy. She can’t wait to live and work in the nation’s capital this summer.
Marley Fishburn '24

Marley is a sophomore at William & Mary from Seaford, DE who is studying Public Policy with interests in sustainability, conservation, art, and law. On campus she holds leadership positions in Student Assembly, the Voter Engagement Action Committee, and the S.U.S.T.A.I.N. initiative. Through these organizations she has successfully ran on-campus Student Assembly elections, led voter registration efforts, and created informational social media campaigns. She is a fellow of Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lamba Delta honor fraternities. She also participates in the Club Swim team and Club Equestrian. Marley is incredibly excited to broaden her experiences through the Leadership and Community Engagement Institute.
Taylor Fox '24
Armed Services Arts Partnership
Taylor Fox is a rising Junior at William & Mary. She is from Henrico County, Virginia. Taylor is heavily involved with campus organizations, initiatives, and task forces dealing with student life and how to better it for her fellow constituents. The main organizations she’s involved in are Student Assembly where she serves as a Class of 2024 senator and Executive Liaison, Residence Hall Association where she serves as the diversity and inclusion chair, and Student’s Rights Initiative where she is the inter-organizational liaison. She majors in Government and Sociology with and concentration in criminology, law, and society on the Pre-Law track. She plans to be a federal attorney and after that create a law firm and use part of her profits to start two nonprofit organizations. One that helps battered women and children with emergency housing and funds, and other resources to help them on their feet. Secondly, an organization that helps kids who are aging out of foster care to have a support system with tutors, career advisors, college advisors, scholarships, etc. She believes these children specifically need a support system that will help them become amazing and successful people in the world. And this currently does not exist, and it upsets her because they have already been in a system that has failed them. She plans to use her experience in the W&M Leadership and Community Engagement Institute to refine her skills as a leader and increase her already high drive and passion for advocacy work. She wants to translate these skills into her future endeavors and initiatives as a postgraduate. She would also like to use this program to build meaningful and intellectual relationships with her peers as well as the professional staff at the W&M D.C Center.
Will Hamlet '23
Georgetown Law Office of International Programs
Will is a junior from Montgomery, Alabama. His major is in Government with a minor in European Studies. Will is interested in international policy and politics and how it affects ordinary people’s daily lives. His passion for community organizing and non-profit work started in high school when he was a camp counselor for underserved children in Hale County, Alabama. On campus, he is involved in Students for University Advancement as Communications Chair, is a member of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and plays on the club field hockey team. He hopes to learn more about how to help people through NGO and government-related work this summer in the Community Engagement and Leadership institute.

Linda Li is a sophomore majoring in Government and minoring in Gender, Sexuality & Women's Studies. She's lived in both China and Canada. On campus, her main involvement is writing and editing for the Flat Hat, Flat Hat Magazine, and ROCKET Magazine. Linda aspires to work at a magazine some day; for now, her immediate goals are perfecting a batch of canelés (a French pastry) and achieving proficiency in Japanese. In her free time, she enjoys reading sustainable fashion blogs, cooking noodle dishes, and exploring on a bike.

Arisha Rehman is a sophomore from Northern Virginia. She is majoring in history and plans to be a history teacher. She is a resident assistant. In her free time, she enjoys yoga and playing with her cats. Arisha is looking forward to learning about Leadership and Community Engagement this summer in DC!
Madison Scalf '24
Global Environment and Technology Foundation
Madison Scalf is a first year transfer student from Richmond, Virginia. She got her start at Reynolds Community College achieving her associates and is now planning on double majoring in Government and Economics here at William & Mary. Madison has been working in Virginia politics since 2018, starting out as a Field Organizer for a Congressional race and moving up to a Campaign Manager position for a State Senate race in 2019. This past election cycle she worked as a Campaign Manager for a State Delegate race here in Virginia. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her partner and watching movies while holding her guinea pigs, Phoebe and Rue. Madison is also a huge advocate for the Deaf community and continuously works to get better at American Sign Language and bring awareness about the community. In the future, Madison hopes to run for office herself to bring racial, economic, and environmental justice. She is looking forward to learning and meeting others through the Leadership and Community Engagement Institute this Summer
Wilson Smith '23

Wilson Smith is a Junior at the College originally from Charleston, West Virginia. He is a double major in Government and Business Analytics with Supply Chain. Aside from his studies he is also a member of the States Election Research team. During his free time on campus he is a member of Kappa Alpha Order and the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. This summer Wilson hopes to explore the learning opportunities in DC and gain experience from living in a large city for the first time.

Grace Sokoll is a sophomore at William & Mary and intends to pursue a major in Public Policy. Originally from West Chester, Pennsylvania, Grace is passionate about social change and strives to be an active leader within her communities. At the College, Grace serves as a Presidential Aid to William & Mary President Katherine Rowe and as a Confidential Advocate in The Haven, a program that provides necessary support to survivors of sexual violence and harassment. Additionally, Grace is a three-time Dean’s List appointee. In her free time, Grace enjoys working out, reading thrillers, and relaxing with her friends. As a Leadership and Community Engagement Fellow, Grace is looking forward to the opportunity to further her leadership education in Washington D.C.
Jaxson Turner '23

Jaxson Turner is a sophomore at William and Mary from Chesapeake, Virginia. He is a Public Policy major with a minor in Management and Organizational Leadership. Upon entering William and Mary, he was rewarded with the William and Mary Scholar award, a scholarship rewarded to those who classify as first-generation, low-income students. On campus, he is involved in the Kappa Sigma fraternity and was involved in his residential complex Community Council as a freshman. Outside of his studies, Jaxson enjoys intramural sports, as well as spending time with his friends and family.
