New Media 2017 Fellows

	Katherine Avery '19 Katherine Avery is a sophomore at the College of William & Mary, currently pursuing a degree English and American Studies. On campus, she is involved with several student activist clubs, including VOX: Voices for Planned Parenthood, and the Lambda Alliance. She is also a member of the William & Mary Mattachine Project, which aims at documenting LGBTIQ history in Virginia. Katherine’s interests include Film History, Social Justice, and early twentieth-century horror literature. She has worked in the past with the Washington DC Japan-America society and the DC Film Festival circuit, and is looking forward to the opportunity of further involvement in and around the capitol.
	Alicia Devereaux '19 Alicia Devereaux is a sophomore at the College, majoring in Religious Studies and also majoring or minoring in Film and Media Studies. She highly values both subjects’ focus on the exploration of different ways of thinking about and seeing the world. Although she’s unsure of what specifically she wants to do with her life, she knows communication will be a part of her career, because creative and openminded dialogue is essential in every area of life. On campus, she is the Marketing and PR Chair (as well as a member of the submissions and design staff) of Winged Nation Literary Arts Magazine. She also serves as Vice President on the Ludwell Hall Council and is a member of the Anthropology Club. Outside of school, Alicia loves running, watching movies, and obsessively listening to podcasts. She looks forward to exploring all branches of “new media," and she hopes to learn about and engage in the way it impacts the world.
	Kaitlin Ferguson '19 Kaitlin Ferguson is a sophomore at William & Mary majoring in psychology and minoring in marketing, originally from Baltimore. She is interested in new media and news communication in the modern world. Kaitlin has always been very passionate about politics and discussing policy issues with peers. She has a love for learning and discovering new information, and hopes to discover her path while in Washington this summer. Kaitlin has held several editorial positions in different literary magazines, in both high school and college, including literary editor and editor in chief. These positions have aided her in discovering her devotion of the media publication processes. She enjoys hosting and serving at both at her job at the Baker's Crust in Williamsburg and a local Baltimore soup kitchen called Beans and Bread. Kaitlin is looking forward to a summer in which she expands her opportunities and discovers more about her passion.

	Elijah Levine '18 Elijah Levine is a junior at the College, from McLean, Virginia. He is pursuing a Major in English, and a subsequent Honors thesis on the connectivity between the performance of Beat era poetry and Jazz. He is also a Music minor. Elijah is a prose editor on the William & Mary Literary Review and writes short fiction and poetry. In the summer of 2016, he studied and served as a Global Development Intern with the University of Cape Town’s SHAWCO program, teaching 8th and 9th graders in the Khayelitsha Township outside of Cape Town. Having experience living and working in politics in the D.C. area, Elijah is excited to bring his passion for media, writing, and social justice to familiar Washington territory.
	Brett Morales '17 Brett Morales is a senior at the College. He is an English major who enjoys spending his free time writing and playing his guitar. He is currently active in journalism as a staff writer for a local paper, though he has aspirations of publishing his own writing as well. He has written mostly short stories and poetry, having works published in on-campus publications. Currently, his greatest passion has been screenwriting, and he has been working on developing his first screenplay. Upon graduation, he hopes to find a future career in media publication/distribution or journalism. He looks forward to applying his creative passions in his experience this summer while exploring the different outlets of media distribution
	Zoe Stallings '20 Zoe is a freshman at the College of William & Mary from Chesapeake, VA. She is interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business Analytics with a concentration in Marketing from William & Mary's Mason School of Business. On campus, Zoe is involved in Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity that volunteers on and around campus. She is also a member of Women in Business and is a staff editor of The Gallery, a literary magazine on campus, where she focuses on the art and photography section. She looks forward to combining her analytical and creative perspectives this summer.
	Tatiana Venn '18 Tatiana Venn, a transfer student, is a Junior at the College and is from Fairfax, Virginia. She is majoring in History and is considering a minor in French. On campus, she is involved in her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta, and does various volunteer works such as Campus Kitchens.Tatiana has had the opportunity to travel to many places abroad such as England, Italy, Denmark, Austria and France. She also was able to experience other cultures as young as 12 years old. In her free time, she loves to read, take long walks in Colonial Williamsburg, visit art galleries, travel, and sample as many different cuisines as possible.Tatiana is very excited to participate in the New Media Institute and learn from upcoming experiences the D.C Institute Program has to offer.
