Meet our National Security Fellows
2014
Sam Biddle
I am a rising senior from Annapolis, MD with a major in Government and a minor in History, and I’m interested in international cooperation on security issues. At William and Mary I’m a member of the International Relations club and will be part of a dais on Interpol at the upcoming WM High School Model UN Conference. I love to travel, with the most impactful experiences I’ve had being my two trips to a rural community in Guatemala, and I’m currently working hard to better my proficiency at Spanish. In my spare time I enjoy reading, spending time with friends, and playing Frisbee, and I also love outdoor activities such as skiing and hiking. I’m excited to live in DC both for the professional and recreational opportunities that it provides, as I think it’s a great city.
Rebecca Brown
Rebecca Brown is a sophomore at the College of William and Mary who is majoring in International Relations with a possible double major in Economics. Additionally, she is a Research Assistant for the Teaching, Research, and International Policy (TRIP) project and is involved in multiple clubs on campus. She has studied Spanish and Chinese and is looking forward to expanding her language skills further. Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Rebecca is excited to be living and working in Washington D.C. this summer. There, she hopes to combine her interest in China with her interest in economic development while gaining valuable insight into the policy making side of International Relations. In her free time, Becca enjoys movie marathons, tap dancing, and spending time with friends.
Alexcia Chambers
Alexcia Chambers is a sophomore at The College of William & Mary studying International Relations with a Hispanic Studies minor. Alexcia has held regular internships at WTOP News Radio in Washington, D.C., under the mentorship of the national security correspondent. Last summer, Alexcia was selected to participate in the American Hellenic Institute’s Foreign Policy Trip in Washington D.C., Cyprus, and Greece where she attended meetings with high level officials of all three countries to learn about the issues affecting Greece and Cyprus, their relations with the U.S., and U.S. interests in the region. At The College, Alexcia is a Model United Nations competitor, a member of the social sorority Kappa Alpha Theta, Director of External Relations for W&M’s Intercollegiate Model UN Conference, and a W&M tour guide. Alexcia’s passion for languages (Spanish, Greek, and Arabic) and travel couples very well with her studies, allowing her to broaden her understanding of international studies.
Carl Cilke
Carl Cilke is a Junior at the College from Springfield, VA. He is a Government major, and his interests include International Security, International Economy, and American Primacy. At the College. he is involved with the International Relations Club. Carl has attended College Model United Nations Conferences, and has worked on a Secretariat for the College. He is also a member of a Active Minds, a mental health awareness club on campus. He is looking to pursue an advanced degree in Conflict Studies after graduation. In his spare time he is likely to be seen arguing with friends, walking through Colonial Williamsburg, and loving his time at William and Mary.
Travis Cuffey
Travis Cuffey is a Junior at the college hailing from the Northern Virginia area. As a government major, he especially enjoys topics covering counterterrorism and domestic security issues. He serves as the Vice-President of his fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha, leading in service projects, community service, and social events for the campus community. He is also involved in the sexual assault peer education group Someone You Know, dedicated to educating men in the methods of lowering the incidence of sexual assault on campus. Off campus through his fraternity, he mentors young at risk youth at Berkeley Middle School, empowering them to be successful young men. In his free time, he enjoys exercise, basketball, reading, chess, and running Tough Mudders.
Katie MacAdam
Katie MacAdam is a rising senior at the College and is pursuing a double major in Government and Economics. After college, she plans on working in the public sector in a field that combines both of her major interests. She is also considering going to graduate school for her Masters in Public Policy. On campus, she is an active member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and Camp Kesem. She also works in the Office of the Dean of Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching movies and crafting. Katie is from Newport News, Virginia, where she has lived for her entire life.
Alexander (Zander) Meitus
Alexander Meitus is a rising senior at the College and majoring in International Relations. His areas of interest related to national security include human rights and political violence. During the fall semester of his junior year, Alexander spent five months studying abroad at la Universidad Nacional de La Plata in Argentina. While in Argentina, he also interned for the government-funded human rights organization la Comisión Provinicial por la Memoria. Alexander is an active member of the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity and plays for the Men’s Club Ultimate Frisbee team. Originally from Denver, Colorado, he also enjoys reading, playing the guitar, and doing any type of outdoor activity.
Nina Moreno
Nina Moreno is a rising senior at the College and a Government major and Process Management and Consulting minor. Her hometown is Herndon, VA. Upon graduating, she hopes to have a career on Capitol Hill or K Street. She has a particular interest in Sino-US relations and the Horn of Africa and hopes to integrate her interests with her passion for policy making. On campus she is an active member of Delta Delta Delta women’s sorority and an executive board member of Tribe Up Til Dawn, a student-run organization that fundraises and promotes awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In addition, she works for the Knowledge and Information Services division of the National Center for State Courts. In her free time she enjoys gourmet cooking, going to music festivals, and watching House of Cards or Archer.
Trevor Parkes
I'm a junior at the college studying government and economics. Hailing from small town, New Jersey I love to play or watch sports, keep up with news, and take vacations to the beach or a Dave Matthews concert whenever possible. At school I keep busy in Greek life holding positions in my fraternity and serving as the Inter-Fraternity Council President and by serving as the Secretary of College Policy for the Student Assembly. I plan on running for the Presidency once I become eligible in 2028 and am looking forward to whatever I do in the interim in Washington.
Jocelyn Westray
Jocelyn is a sophomore at the College pursuing a major in International Relations with a focus in the Middle East and Arabic Language. She is originally from Lovettsville, Virginia, in Loudoun County and she was the Graduation Speaker of Merit for the first graduating class of Woodgrove High School. On campus she is a leader in the faith based group, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, and a member of Nu Kappa Epsilon Music Sorority. She is also heavily involved in Relevant Church and is a leader of its new youth group. In her free time she enjoys singing and playing guitar and piano, as well as writing her own music. She is looking forward to studying and interning in Washington this summer so that she can expand her horizons and learn in a new and exciting way.
Kelsey Wilkinson
I am a junior majoring in Government and Marketing. I speak Spanish and have studied abroad in Cusco, Peru and plan to study in Barcelona, Spain in the spring. I am interested especially in Latin American studies and national security. On campus I am heavily involved in planning and budgeting events for Alma Mater Productions as well as preparing cases for the Mock Trial Team. I also conduct research on campus aimed at isolating indicators of radicalization that may lead to terrorist activities. In my free time I love curling up with a cup of tea and a good book.
