Akane Nishimura '20Akane is a sophomore exchange student at The College of William & Mary, and she is originally from Akita International University in Japan. Although her academic interest is broad and various, she is particularly interested in the disparity between cities and rural areas regarding access to cultural education. The interest was built by her own experience: growing up in a city area and moving to the rural area for her university. For your information, the prefecture of her university’s location has got the highest depopulation rate among all prefectures in Japan. Comparing her life living at the two places, she began to see the gap of opportunities in cultural experience as a huge problem. During the time in DC, she desires to get practical and well-thought-out ideas to solve the problem. She is also very excited to learn a lot of things from the professor, people in DC, and even other students involved in this program. As the theme of 2019 Spring is related to music, she hopes to share her love in music with people, too. In her free time, she enjoys singing and playing acoustic guitar. She is the kind of person who cannot live without music. |

She extremely enjoys appreciating the architecture in cities as she travels.
