Rich Thompson the Associate Director for Sadler Center and Campus Center is responsible for the day to day operations and handling the logistics for all of the events produced at them for the college. Since joining the College of William & Mary and relocating to the Williamsburg community, Rich has been active in promoting the numerous benefits of cycling through his committee and club participation both on and off campus.
Since 2007, Rich has served as the college’s representative on the Historic Triangle Bicycle Advisory Committee appointed by the President’s Office. He also has served on the college’s Sustainability Transportation Subcommittee promoting cycling as an alternative form of transportation and is participating member of the Williamsburg Area Bicyclist and the Richmond Area Bicycling Association. For his efforts in supporting projects/programs such as Pedal the Parkway, Williamsburg Area Promotional Cycling Video, and the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation along with providing instruction to new riders and leading group bike rides locally and regionally; Rich received the President’s Award for Service to the Community in 2011.
Rich averages 4,000-5,000 miles per year on his bike and he has biked/toured in events 17 US states and parts of Canada. He has competed in the bike events where he has either placed on medaled. However, the greatest joy on the bike is riding with friends here in the Williamsburg community or just commuting to work by bike.
