Gov. Northam to officiate swearing in
Official inauguration to be held in spring 2019

Katherine A. Rowe will be sworn in as William & Mary’s 28th president by Gov. Ralph Northam during a ceremony July 2 in the university’s Wren Building.

The brief ceremony will begin at noon in the Great Hall of the Wren. It is open to the campus community and public, though seating is limited. The event will also be livestreamed on the William & Mary website and the university’s Facebook page.

William & Mary's Board of Visitors on Feb. 20, 2018, unanimously elected Rowe, a leader in digital innovation in higher education and current provost of Smith College, to succeed President Taylor Reveley, who is retiring June 30 after a decade leading the university as its 27th president. While the swearing-in ceremony takes place on July 2, Rowe’s tenure as president officially begins Sunday, July 1.

The university will hold an official inauguration celebration for Rowe during the spring 2019 semester. Additional information will be released later in the year.
