The William & Mary athletics department announced Thursday that 2015 Women’s World Cup champion coach Jill Ellis ‘88 will be returning to William & Mary for Family Weekend on Sept. 25 and 26.
Ellis will be on hand at both the Tribe women’s soccer match against Hofstra on Friday, Sept. 25 (at Martin Family Stadium at Albert/Daly Field) and the football game against Stony Brook on Saturday, Sept. 26. At both contests she will be honored at halftime. Additionally she will briefly address the crowd at the women’s soccer match.
Fans will have opportunities to enter drawings for a chance to win a meet-and-greet prior to the match on Friday night. Fans that purchase tickets before Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m. will be automatically entered into the contest. Five winners will be selected and receive the opportunity to be accompanied by a guest and be a part of a special meet-and-greet with Ellis.
Students will also have an opportunity to participate in the meet-and-greet. To be entered into the drawing, they must attend the women’s soccer matches on Friday, Sept. 11 and Sunday, Sept. 13. Sign-up sheets will be available at the marketing table just inside the entrance to Martin Family Stadium. Again, five winners will be selected and given the opportunity to be accompanied by a guest to meet Ellis.
Originally from Portsmouth, England, Ellis played forward for the Tribe from 1984-87, and recently led the United States to its first World Cup title since 1999. She finished her college career with 32 goals, 19 assists, and ranks ninth in career points with 83. She earned third-team All-American honors during her senior season. She helped the Tribe to the NCAA tournament all four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 1987. Ellis earned her degree from William and Mary in English Literature and Composition.
