Updated William & Mary license plate now available
A newly designed William & Mary license plate is available for sale through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles beginning today.
The plate features the cypher and the updated university word mark and replaces the previous design featuring the College Coat of Arms.
Eden Harris, associate director of marketing, communications and licensing, worked with University Web & Design as well as the Virginia DMV for the past six months to update the plate.
“William & Mary has worked so hard this past year to create a consistent visual identity, through the newly created style guide, campus signage, merchandising and more; the license plate re-design is just an extension of that very public consistency we are hoping to achieve,” Harris said.
The new William & Mary license plate joins the Griffin mascot plate to provide two options to drivers looking to showcase their Tribe Pride. Additionally, Harris noted, William & Mary license plates serve two purposes; the first offers high visibility statewide, but the second is a financial purpose. With each plate sold, William & Mary receives a $15 contribution to the scholarship fund, which is considered tax deductible.
The plates can hold up to six characters and are available for purchase from the Virginia DMV’s website.
