Swaddle to be heard on With Good Reason
College of William & Mary faculty member John Swaddle will be featured in the next week on the radio program, With Good Reason. Swaddle, the Sara Boyd Associate Professor of Biology, discusses in layman’s terms the cycle of vector-borne illnesses such as West Nile disease, and outlines how they develop in wildlife hosts and are transferred to humans by vector pests. The interview will begin airing Sept. 8 and may be heard through Sept. 14. Broadcast times are posted online.
Swaddles's research shows one key to curtailing West Nile disease may lie in increasing the diversity of birds. He notes attracting a variety of birds to your back yard may actually lower your chance of getting the disease.
Swaddle holds a Ph.D. in behavioral ecology and a B.Sc. in psychology and zoology from the University of Bristol, UK. He has been at William & Mary since 2001.
