Football Saturdays won't be the same without Sheeran

Bob Sheeran has devoted just short of one half-century of his life to William & Mary, from starting college in 1963 to his graduation four years later, to working in the university’s athletic department to what he may be best known for, color commentary on Tribe football.

Sheeran broadcast his final game on Saturday, Nov. 17, against the University of Richmond. It was his 470th consecutive game.

“He was about as consistent as Saturday afternoon,” former Tribe quarterback Shawn Knight ’94 recently told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “There are few things you can count on. You could count on Saturday afternoon, and you could count on Bob Sheeran … There was no fan greater than he.”

Sheeran, 68, said he wants to spend more time with his wife, two sons and year-old granddaughter, Neva. He also wants to tailgate, pregame and, maybe, postgame. During a ceremony prior to the game against Richmond, the athletic department helped get him started in that endeavor with a lifetime pass to all of its events.

Sounds like while you won’t see him in the broadcast booth and won’t hear his voice over the radio, Bob Sheeran will continue to be a fixture at William & Mary.
