Kalyani Hemant Phansalkar selected as student commencement speaker
Kalyani Hemant Phansalkar has been selected as the 2011 student Commencement speaker for the College of William and Mary. Her speech will be part of the Commencement ceremony, scheduled for May 15 at noon in William & Mary Hall.
The student Commencement speaker is selected through a competitive process by the Commencement Committee and members of the graduating class.
The Gaithersburg, Md. resident will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and government.
While at the College, Phansalkar has served as the vice president of the South Asian Students Association (SASA), been an active member in the Every 2 Minutes branch of HOPE, and served for two years as an undersecretary on the Student Assembly Committee for Diversity Initiatives.
She loves to dance and has performed in professional shows throughout the Washington D.C. area as well as multicultural events on campus. She also enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family and friends. Following graduation, Kalyani plans to move back to Maryland to pursue a graduate degree at Georgetown University in media, communications, and technology.
