William & Mary included in 'Philanthropy 400'
William & Mary, which is listed 347th after raising nearly $51 million in fiscal year 2009, is one of only 114 colleges and universities included in the annual ranking. It is the first time the College has been included in the top 400 list.
“This recognition as one of the top philanthropies in the country is a direct result of the commitment and dedication of our alumni and friends,” said Vice President for Development Sean Pieri. “We are extremely grateful for this ongoing support as it positions the College for continued success as a leading liberal arts university of the 21st century."
The top-400 ranking follows other recent acknowledgements for William & Mary’s fundraising efforts. Earlier this year, the College announced another strong year for fundraising in fiscal year 2010, which ended June 30. Last year, the College raised more than $43 million, including a 19 percent increase in annual giving and an 8 percent increase in the number of alumni donors. In August, William & Mary was recognized for having one of the best fundraising programs among public colleges and universities as a recipient of the 2010 CASE-WealthEngine Award for Excellence. That award is based on the past three years of fundraising activity. Additionally, judges considered the pattern of growth in total support, the pattern of growth in each program area, and the total support in the alumni base.
